I Have A Dream

What I am Thinking ... Linda's Blog

Saturday, September 15, 2007

I was listening to a meditation CD by Deepak Chopra on the way to work this morning. I'm walking around ill at ease because I have a number of decisions to make and need to be STLL to make them.

I need to just BE for a little while. But it's hard. There's always something to do. Work. Worry. Stress. Worry. Worry. And worry.

I thought maybe Deepak in his infinite wisdom would soothe my soul just long enough for me to THINK my big thoughts and make my life altering decisions. Not so. The bus was too noisy, there was a three car pile up attracting attention and my brand new snazzy steel toed boots were driving my toes crazy.

Can I just say as an aside: when they recommend meditation in a quiet, serene setting; and when they advise you to wear loose, comfortable clothing and bare feet, they're doing so for a reason. Contemplation according to psychologist Daniel Goleman, ".....sacralizes the ordinary, divining it's deepest dimensions." With a lofty goal such as that, who wants to be wincing over their steel shod piggies while trying to achieve nirvana?

What DID make me sit up and take notice though, was the track entitled Ode to Solomon. I googled the Odes; plural because there are over 40 of them. There is controversy over whether the Odes of Solomon were a Jewish or a Christian composition. Were they written in the 2nd or 3rd century? They don't know. Who wrote them? Not Solomon. By a gaggle of pious men? Or one shining soul? History mystery.

I was struck by something when Deepak's mellifluous voice chanted, "You split me and you tore my heart open and you filled me with love. You poured your spirit over mine. I knew you as I know myself. My eyes are radiant with your light. My ears delight in your music. My nostrils are filled with your fragrance and my face is covered with your dew. You have made me see all things shining. You have made me see all things new. You have granted me perfect ease and I have become like paradise. And having become like paradise, my soul is healed."

Knowing where it came from, you can immediately sense this is a "love letter" to God. But what if you were reading the words and didn't know their origin. It could simply be a love letter.

17 centuries later a woman wrote, " He is the only man I have ever called sweetheart. He taught me the meaning of love. He taught me the value of honour and loyalty. He thanked me for being patient with him, but it's no burden. It is the greatest gift I can give him.
When he's not with me I can smell him and long for his taste. When he smiles I turn to jelly. When he sleeps I protect him. When his lungs forget to breathe my heart stops. When he swaggers down my hall it fills me with a happiness I have never experienced, can't explain and am grateful for every single day."

Two people, almost 1800 years and an ocean apart spilling love from their souls, driven by ecstasy and joy.

This is the way love should be. Loud, bold and joyous.
If there's love in your heart, speak it now. Chances are your words won't be immortalized through the millennium, so there's only now. This moment. When this moment passes and the words die on your lips; held back because of some stupid reason or another.....usually fear or pride....think of what life would be without love; and if that doesn't make you shudder with terror, then it should.

Put your lips to your sweetheart's ear and whisper, "I love you."
